Following service in the RAAF where Noel completed his pilot's course, he undertook employment with TAA circa 1958/59. In the early morning hours of 24 May, 1961, while a co-pilot
of a DC4 freighter on a night cargo service from Sydney to Brisbane, the aircraft crashed on Bulwer Island whilst on approach to Brisbane Airport. The accident occurred when the captain, Patrick James 'Paddy' Norriss attempted to vacate his seat while suffering
a cardiac arrest and collapsed across the engines' throttle levers. Noel was unable to maintain control of the aircraft and both were killed in the resultant crash. Noel, married with two young children aged 2½ years and 1½ years, was 25 years of age. During his RAAF service, Noel flew with 38 (TT) Squadron and 34 (VIP) Squadron. He was later commissioned. In addition to Noel Adams, tribute is also paid to the aircraft captain, former RAAF FLTLT Patrick 'Paddy' Norriss. Paddy, 44 of Essendon, Victoria, was married with three children. |
