Vale - Colin Mervyn ANSON ′Avro′, O1306, Pilot ....

Wing Commander Colin Mervyn Anson, universally known as ′Avro′, had a very colourful flying career in the RAAF. Initially, Avro was a World War II sergeant pilot flying Catalinas.  Later he flew Liberators on POW return flights from the Asia-Pacific region.  He was also a P3 pilot when that change in aircrew titles of rank held sway temporarily in the RAAF.

Later, Avro was a test and ferry pilot at No 1 Aircraft Depot, Laverton, before transferring to the engineer branch but kept his flying currency until he discharged from the service in 1976.

While an engineering officer with 2 Squadron in Vietnam (September 1969 to September 1970), Avro flew Canberra test flights following maintenance.  He was still flying Canberras as well as Iroquois while at No 3 Aircraft Depot, Amberley, in the early 1970s.

Other aircraft Avro flew included the Tiger Moth, Anson, Winjeel, Sabre, Vampire, Meteor, Dakota, Lincoln and Bristol Freighter .... he flew them all.
