Michael (Mick) was born 16th March 1958, joined the RAAF in 1977, and did his initial training as a C130 engine fitter with 486 Squadron. He completed flight engineer training in 1983 and was posted to 11 Squadron where he crewed the P3C Orion. Mick was awarded the National Catalina Association award for the most outstanding airman in 1986 and achieved the position of Assistant Flight Engineer Training Officer for 11 Squadron in the same year. Following his departure from the RAAF in 1987, Mick fulfilled his long held ambition, and joined Cathay Pacific as a flight engineer on its TriStar fleet. Mick, aged 32, passed away on 17th February 1991 after two bone marrow transplants and a courageous 18 month battle with cancer of the bone marrow.
