Vale - William Wallace O′ROURKE DFM 'Bill', A42889, Gunner ....

Corporal William 'Bill' Wallace O'Rourke joined the RAAF in 1967 as an Airfield Defence Guard.  He had completed his tour of Vietnam in 1968 flying more than 4000 missions as a gunner and assistant crewman on Iroquois helicopters with 9 Squadron.

His Distinguished Flying Medal citation says he demonstrated a high degree of skill with the M60 machine guns being credited with five potential kills.

Corporal O′Rourke demomstratred a high degree of steadfastness and firing skill when facing the enemy.  He set a fine example to all crewmen and added measureably to the squadron's achievements.

Post-Vietnam, Bill became a Warrant Officer Disciplinary and it is understood that he served in this role at RAAF Base Edinburgh.

Bill left the RAAF in 1977 and resided in South Australia.
