Corporal William 'Bill' Wallace O'Rourke joined the RAAF in 1967 as an Airfield Defence Guard. He had completed his tour of Vietnam in 1968 flying more than 4000 missions as a gunner and assistant crewman on Iroquois helicopters with 9 Squadron. His Distinguished Flying Medal citation says he demonstrated a high degree of skill with the M60 machine guns being credited with five potential kills. Corporal O′Rourke demomstratred a high degree of steadfastness and firing skill when facing the enemy. He set a fine example to all crewmen and added measureably to the squadron's achievements. Post-Vietnam, Bill became a Warrant Officer Disciplinary and it is understood that he served in this role at RAAF Base Edinburgh. Bill left the RAAF in 1977 and resided in South Australia.
