Post-RAAF, Jim enjoyed travelling in his motorhome and he also volunteered his time as a disability pensions officer with VVAA Townsville. Originally, Jim was an airframe fitter and later trained as a helicopter crewman in 1962. He served with No 9 Sqn in Vietnam from 12/06/1966 to 02/04/1967. Jim later became a flight engineer and flew with 36 and 11 Squarons.
