Nev joined RAAF in October 1960 and retired in June 1985, and a year later, he joined the Reserve (24 City of Adelaide Squadron), retiring in 2003. Post air force, Nev lived in Nuriootpa, South Australia, but then relocated to Greenwith. He initially joined the RAAF as an Equipment Assistant (Supplier) and served in many different locations including Vietnam from June 1967 to June 1968 where Nev was with Base Support Flight, Vung Tau.
