Peter was killed in a post-flying incident on Vung Tau Airfield, South Vietnam on 08 January 1971. A weapon (M60) that had not been cleared discharged when being unloaded from a 9 Squadron Iroquois aircraft in the revetments at Vung Tau airfield. Peter was accidentally shot and killed.
