Michael was one of the first army loadmasters in 1987.  Training at AAFTS, AMTDU, Combat Survival, 5 Squadron and then a posting to 9 Squadron.

Following the merge to A Squadron 5 Aviation Regiment, Michael was posted as an instructor to the ADF Helicopter School at RAAF Fairbairn.  Another stint at 5 Aviation Regiment lead to a posting to the Directorate of Flying Safety as the first NCO aircraft accident investigator.  After four years in this role Michael was commissioned and posted as the Aviation Safety Officer at 5 Aviation Regiment.

Michael′s last posting was as the 16 Brigade (Aviation) Safety Manager before retiring from defence and taking a position as the Safety Manager at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba.
