Avro Anson
\lo. t2 Squadron was formed on February 6,
I I 1939 at RAAF Laverton. The Squadron was
equipped with Avro Anson and Hawker Demon
aircraft. Later the same year, the unit moved to
Darwin where it operated under RAAF Command,
North Western Area. One flight was re-equipped at
this time with Wirraway aircraft. The Wirraway was
to become the mainstay of the air defence of the
expansive North Western area of Australia during
the early war years. The Squadron was primarily
engaged in routine patrolling, reconnaissance and
convoy escort duties.
