Chinooks
The aircraft is capable of carrying 33 fully equipped
troops or lifting up to 20,000 lb (9,090 kg) externally
on its hook. Provision is also made for the installa-
tion of 24 litters in lieu of the troop seats for medical
evacuation.
The ability of the Chinook to carry heavy external
loads has led to its being used for the movement of
some unusual loads including Caribou, lroquois and
Wessex aircraft, lighthouse towers, railway
carriages and a complete telephone exchange.
